Before read about my post about Facebook, let’s examine people around you who are working on their laptops or computers. I can guarantee at least half of people whom you examined worked on or even turned on Facebook. Most people rely with Facebook these days, and even for me, I cannot function or live without Facebook as well. I can say, welcome to Facebook’s world and century.
Even in many schools or colleges, people in library or in their room still play and role with their Facebook updates and their profiles. However, even though Facebook can be fun and entertaining website for all of you when you are cramming midterms or finals, Facebook, in general, can be sometimes extremely fatal and dangerous for your information and relationship with other people. Let’s discover why Facebook can be hazardous for all of you.
The main reason why I said Facebook could be dangerous is because Facebook does not protect each person’s privacy. In Facebook, one person can see what his/her friend liked or posted on another person’s wall. This means that I can see someone’s private activity that are not either my friend’s or mine. Also, this means that some person whom you don’t know can see your activities. I am also scary and sounds creepy when someone who don’t know look my posts, pictures or my whole timeline on Facebook.
Also, it is important to know that people can be addicted to Facebook. Facebook is different from many other social networking websites throughout the history. Unlike Twitter and MySpace, Facebook enable people to play games and to play applications that can give fun to its users. Having fun with Facebook seems good for me. On the other hand, when people cannot handle with their time usage of Facebook, people can be addicted to Facebook that can seriously harm people’ lives. In CNN article “Five Clues that you are addicted to Facebook” by Elizabeth Cohen, the writer mentioned there are five actions or clues why people are addicted to Facebook. First, when someone loses sleep and looks sleepy, there’s high potential to guess that person could not sleep because person could overwhelmingly play Facebook for whole night. Second, when person spends more than an hour of a day on Facebook, it can be sign of addiction to Facebook as well. Third, interestingly, people are addicted to Facebook because people cannot forget their old loves. In Facebook, people can have an access to see many other people’ individual pictures in each individual’s timeline, and seeing pictures, especially seeing pictures of their lovers, make people to be addicted to Facebook. Furthermore, the sign of not working or studying shows that people favor Facebook more than any other works. Lastly, when people become gloomy when they turn off Facebook, it is another sign that people are addicted to Facebook. Facebook addiction is one of the biggest problems that many people face, and it is still hard to fix this problem as well.
Of course, there are many positive and beneficial elements that Facebook carries. However, it is important or somewhat sad to say that I think the most popular social networking site, Facebook, is the most impersonal and the most addicting mode of communication throughout the history. World became global and people appreciate and experience the globalization of world and having friends from so many other regions, while losing their privacies and showing their information to all people secretly.
